Moving Costs

Moving costs, like relocation assistance, is available to almost all individuals who are displaced from a property being seized by PennDot in an eminent domain proceeding. This includes all residential owner/occupants, regardless of the length of time that they have owned the property, all residential tenants, as well as all businesses and nonprofit organizations, regardless of whether they own or rent the property being seized.

Different options and eligibility rules apply to businesses, nonprofit organizations, and residential properties.

Residents who are displaced by eminent domain proceedings may elect to receive a fixed schedule and dislocation allowance, reimbursement for the actual costs of a commercial move or a combination of the two options. Meanwhile, businesses (including farms) and nonprofit organizations are eligible for a variety of other forms of payment depending on certain eligibility criteria and the surrounding circumstances.
