Relocation Assistance

Relocation Assistance is available for all individuals who legally occupy a property and who are displaced as a result of PennDot condemnation proceedings. Additionally, this assistance is sometimes available to individuals whose property is not condemned, but who live adjacent to property which was acquired by the eminent domain proceedings. The determination as to eligibility asks if the condemnation has resulted in substantial economic injuries to the adjacent (non-condemned) property as a result of the eminent domain action.

Relocation advisory assistance includes:

  • Providing information regarding “decent, safe and sanitary replacement dwellings or business sites” which are either for sale or rent.
  • Providing current information regarding financing, mortgages, interest rates and terms as well as other costs and fees attributable to the various available properties.
  • Referring individuals and businesses to public and private agencies for special assistance.
  • Transportation for the inspection of potential replacement housing.
  • Inspecting replacement dwellings to determine sufficiency for decent, safe and sanitary living.
