Collision Coverage

Collision coverage insures your car against loss or damage in an accident, regardless of who was at fault. This policy is used to either repair or replace your vehicle which sustained damage as a result of an accident.

Following an accident, the insured individual usually presents their collision claim to their own insurance carrier, who makes payment for the damages. Then, if another party was at fault, the insurance carrier who paid the claim can proceed to recover that expense from the insurance policy of the driver at fault, in a process called subrogation.

Normally, collision coverage has a deductible – often $250 or $500, which needs to be exceeded prior to the insurance company making payment.
